Applying mehndi or henna is a very important part of different cultures. It is common in south-asia, middle-east and Africa. Applying mehndi is a very old tradition. The mehndi that we see today is its much evolved form.
We do various methods to make our henna tattoo more attractive. Sometimes we draw beautiful and complicated designs to give it a different look. Another method of making your henna tattoo attractive is applying glitter on it. No doubt that it’s an old method but still it looks beautiful and is very popular!
Applying glitter on mehndi is a nice way to making it more beautiful. It is sometimes applied on the drying paste of henna to give it a different look. It only last for a day and get washed along with the paste. We can also apply glitter on henna tattoo give it a beautiful look. It will look really nice on parties and weddings. Since glitter mehndi is not water proof so it will get washed as soon as we'll wash it.
We can either buy glitter for mehndi or we can simply make it at home. Making glitter mehndi at home is simple and easy. It only requires a few ingredients that are easily available. You only need a hair gel and some “mica glitter” (You also need a container and a spoon). Make sure that you are using mica glitter because other glitter such as dust or craft glitter is metallic and it’s not good for your skin.
Take some hair gel, it should be thick (not runny one). There is no exact quantity roughly I can say take out 3-4 spoons. Now take almost half spoon of mica glitter. Mix both of these ingredients well. You will get a thick paste. This is our required glitter. You can pour this glitter in a cone and apply it as you apply henna on your skin.
That was a simple method for making glitter mehndi at home. It can make your henna tattoo much more attractive than the ordinary one!

Henna drums

Through 20th century, henna drums were used by women of North Africa and Middle East. At that time women were used to play frame drums, doumbeks, and riqs (tambourines) in different festivals, parties and weddings. They often patterned their drums’ heads with as they pattern their skin! Those drums were called henna drums.

The drums heads are made of goat skin or leather so applying henna is easy on them. While other paints may damage the skin. Since henna paste is made up of natural ingredients so they are safe to apply on drums. Its color will not interfere sound either. But remember; don’t add essential oils while making your henna paste as they may damage its skin.

The method of applying henna is same as you apply it on your hand. You need an untreated goatskin drum as treated drums will not be able to take the color of henna. You can tell that either drum is natural or treated by touching the skin. If it’s smooth then it’s treated but if it’s rough then it’s untreated.

Make henna paste by mixing henna powder with lemon. Let it set for 6-10 hours. Clean your drum properly before applying henna paste on it.

Before applying henna on drum choose a design. If you want to draw a complex design then it’s better to draw a rough sketch on your drum head (but the pencil marks should not be dark). Apply henna paste as you apply on your skin. Once you complete your design now you can left it for a few days (or may be one week) to dry. After seven day, gently remove the paste with the help of card board or any other thing but it should not be very pointed or sharp as it can damage the drum.

The reddish color under the paste will start to appear and this will be our henna drum.

Dying your hair by using henna paste is the best method of coloring your hair because henna paste is made up of natural ingredients and it nourishes your hair. Making henna paste for your hair is slightly different from the one you make it for your skin.

Sometimes it is preferred to add some additional things in henna paste when you are making it for your hair. They are good for your hair and they enhance the color of mehndi as well. Henna itself is a good conditioner. It reduces dandruff and gives your hair a natural shine!

Henna paste with additional ingredients:

Here there are two different recipes for making henna paste for different purposes but some of the basic ingredients will remain the same. For example you need fresh henna paste. You need some acidic liquid to make the paste (e.g. lemon, vinegar, tea or coffee).

Henna as a conditioner:
Mix henna powder with yogurt, lemon juice and an egg. It is a good conditioner for your hair. Leave it for 40-50 minutes. You can also add 1 to 2 teaspoons of olive or coconut oil if your hair are dry.

Henna as a dye:
Take 100 g of henna powder, 50 grams of amla powder, and 50 g of sikakai powder (you can change the quantity according to the thickness of your hair). Add lemon juice in it (one lemon will be enough). To make the paste, add warm water in it. Apply this paste on your hair.

How to apply henna:

Always apply henna paste on freshly shampooed hair. Put on plastic gloves and then apply the paste. Start applying from the roots of the hair and cover your whole hair with henna paste. It will give you a uniform colour. Leave it for at least two hours (even more if you want to).
Wash your hair carefully and remove the henna paste gently.
